Recipe makes aprox. 48+ cubes of Duck Soup
Ingredients
Mixture 1 Boil chicken in just enough water to cover chicken while cooking. Don't add too much water. If water quality is a problem, you may opt to cook the chicken in Organic chicken broth. This will only intensify the flavor. The goal is to make a tasty, concentrated broth while cooking the chicken. Boil until chicken meat is falling off bones. Remove chicken and set aside to cool. Set aside to save chicken broth. When chicken is cooled enough to handle, remove and discard all chicken skin and bones. Pulverize chicken pieces with enough broth to cover in food processor. When finished, this mixture should be about the consistency of smooth sour cream. Depending on the size of your food processor, this may take several loads. Set pulverized chicken aside in large bowl. * I've found that ferrets prefer the full-bodied taste of dark meat chicken as opposed to the light meat of the chicken breast.
Mixture 2 Pour dry kitten kibble into food processor & pulverize. Add chicken stock a little at a time until kibble is slightly soupy- not watery. Mash papaya tablets with a mortal & pistil and add to food processor. Continue mixing while adding all ingredients, one at a time. Mix throughly. When finished, this mixture will have the consistency of very thick pea soup.
Add second mixture to pulverized chicken in bowl. Continue to mix all ingredients until well blended. It's at this stage you might need to add the remaining chicken stock with a stick blender. You may need to tweak the recipe to a more soupy consistency by adding the Organic Chicken Stock. Be care not to dilute the Chicken Soup too much. When finished, the recipe will be a greenish brown colored soup with the consistency of loose yogurt.
Pour Duck Soup into plastic ice cube trays & freeze. Once frozen, remove cubes and seal in either several small bags with a vacuum sealer or place in zip lock freezer bags.
Serve warm. Place one cube in a small container. Place container in a pot of water on top of the stove to steam thawed. Do NOT defrost or reheat in a microwave. The microwave will alter the atomic structure of the Duck Soup and as such, will destroy the potency & lessen the nutritional value. If your ferret is having a difficult time with digestion and watery stools, add Dr. Driggers food enzymes to each serving immediately before giving to your ferret. Do NOT add enzymes to Duck Soup when you're making it. Enzymes will pre-digest the chicken soup if combined too early.
Using this recipe, you may find that the Duck Soup should last you 3+ weeks depending on how much & how often your ferret eats. (a relief because it's so labor intensive to make!) Beware that once your ferret tastes this recipe, he won't want to eat anything else except you could offer a bowl of dry ANF sprinkled with a little Blue Green Algae. Your ferret may start snacking on the dry food in between Duck Soup feedings. He will still pace, lick his lips and squawk when he thinks it's time for his Duck Soup though.
NOTE: It's important to use ANF kitten kibble in this recipe. ANF kibble has a high concentration of meal blood which makes it very palatable. ANF is also higher in protein than Ferret kibble and comes in vacuum sealed bags to preserve it's freshness. ANF is a high quality pet food, and does not have preservatives added. It's sold to breeders and Veternarians across the country. ANF started their business as a supplier of high quality, high protein content food for Mink farmers. As such, ANF has their nutritional formula down to a science. ANF will greatly enhance the coat quality, whisker length and strength, as well as the overall health of ferrets. You can order a case of ANF by calling: (800) 544-4790. When you order, you will receive a case of eight 3 1/2 pound vacuum sealed bags for approximately $34.00 (shipping, handling & delivery inclusive). Don't order the large bag they may offer you. Depending on what day and time of the day you call, delivery arrives in 5-7 days. If you go to www.anf.com, you can learn more about the company and their products. |
